Badges are rewards that are given to users who earn them, usually through completing a task. They are also used as prizes that are given out by Habbo Staff, and they are extremely sought after by users who collect them. Badges vary in rarity depending on the amount of people who have them. Some badges are extremely rare, with there being less than 10 people on the hotel who have earned it, and some badges were given out to thousands of users. After users earn badges they can view them in their Inventory, and can set up to 5 to be visible on their profile when users click on them in-game.
History[edit | edit source]
The first badges were released around 2005, to a very few number of users. Originally, badges were rarely given out and if they were, in small quantities. But as time went on, badges were more regularly given out to a point where users would start collecting them and competing to see who could get the most. Users would also collect them to show off to other Habbos in-game on their profile, especially showing off the rarest badges they owned.
In the time period of 2011 - 2013 hundreds of badges were produced and were made available to users by playing games. This was because of The Great Mute which caused Habbo user populations to greatly decrease. So in an effort to try and gain some users back and to try to give current users a reason to stay, badges were used to give users a purpose on the game. During this time period, the influence of badges on the Habbo community greatly increased, going so far as having entire fansites being based entirely on how to get badges so users can easily earn them.
Achievements[edit | edit source]
Achievements were introduced shortly after badges. They are tasks that users can complete in order to earn secondary currencies, and/or Achievement Points to go towards a users achievement score. Special achievement badges were also introduced that were given to users for completing different sets of achievements. Every time a user levels up an achievement their achievement badge updates to reflect their current level for that achievement.
Image Standards[edit | edit source]
Badges are always 40x40 pixels in size. The only exception to this size limit was some Habbo China badges that needed to be extended to fit in the Chinese characters. This size limit is to make them uniform in Habbo when you are viewing them. All badges are also in the .gif file format. Due to the way they appear in-client, badges never contain pure white in them. They always contain an off-white or darker color.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Habbo uploads their badges to the same directory, so all that is needed to find their images is to alter the ending of this url with the badge code and add the .gif file extension to the end: http://habboo-a.akamaihd.net/c_images/album1584/
- If you go to http://habboo-a.akamaihd.net/c_images/album1584/WHY.gif you will see an easter egg that the graphic designers put in.
