"Habbo Club is a special group that gives you access to exclusive features like more clothing styles, exclusive room designs, more space on your friends list and lots more."

Habbo Club, commonly referred to as HC, is Habbo's premium membership service offered to players. Originally introduced on December 17, 2002 with version 4 of Habbo, it provides members with extra features both in-game and on the website, such as additional furniture, badges, and more clothing. Membership originally cost 25 Coins per month, however, the price was increased to 50 Credits and 50 Diamonds per month on March 30, 2016.[1] When Habbo Club was first released it was the height of luxury within Habbo, it allowed players access to HC only rooms, extra clothes, and offered monthly rare gifts. One of the rarest gifts of its time may be the

Club sofa
, which was once used as a currency in the Habbo community.

In mid-2010, Habbo introduced a second membership service called VIP, upgrading the existing benefits from Habbo Club. This started the decline in popularity of Habbo Club as being a cheaper secondary version; many players believed it was not worth the 15 coins for the features you attained. On November 25, 2011, Habbo Club was removed from the game, leaving only VIP. However, on January 16, 2013, VIP was removed and Habbo Club was reintroduced as the only membership option once again.

In March 2016 several updates were made to the Habbo Club membership program, the most notable being the large price spike which also marked the first time that a membership program in Habbo can only be purchased by having to use a secondary currency, with prices now including Diamonds.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Habbo Club brings many extra benefits, such as commands, dances, shop furni lines, rooms, clothes, and more which are not available to players without a subscription (dubbed "non-HC's" or "norms"). Once your subscription ends, these benefits are removed, but any exclusive furniture bought during membership remains with the player.

Habbo Club's membership program was originally different to other MMOGs; instead of paying with real life money, subscription was bought using coins, Habbo's in-game currency. This meant that players can have "free" membership because coins can also be gained through trade. However, after an update in March 2016, this difference was removed after staff made the price of Habbo Club include Diamonds, which are only able to be earned by purchasing Credits.

Benefits[edit | edit source]

  • A free furni for every month of being a member (see monthly furni section).
  • Additional room layouts with multiple levels and stairs, allowing for the construction of more elaborate rooms (although technically redundant if you also have a Builders Club subscription).
  • A larger selection of clothing styles and colors with the ability to mix and match colors, and the ability to save outfits for future use (saving outfits introduced in version 20 of Habbo).
  • A longer friends list; non-HC members have a maximum of 300 friends on their list while HC members can have up to 1100.
  • Exclusive HC badge to show off one's membership (see badge section).
  • Exclusive commands such as :chooser and :furni (see Commands).
  • Three more dances: Duck Funk, Pogo Mogo, and The Rollie (introduced in version 8 of Habbo).
  • Five offers on the Marketplace available.
  • A special section in the catalog for members only, featuring exclusive furniture such as the

    Black Hole
    .
  • The ability to create and use admin powers in groups
    • At one point, it was possible for all players, regardless of membership status, to make a group. Beginning in 2011, as more features began to become integrated into the client, group creation was limited to Habbo Club members. Many players called this a controversial move.
  • No ads in the client.
  • HC Payday (see HC Payday section), which means you will get 10% of your Shop spent Credits back on the 15th of every month, plus a bonus amount of Credits determined by the length of time your current membership has been active continuously (called HC Streak).
  • Twice the amount of Duckets per day
  • Additional colored chat bubbles.

HC Payday[edit | edit source]

HC Payday is a benefit introduced to Habbo Club on March 30, 2016. The benefit was added help justify the drastic price spike for HC.

Here's how it works:

  • You get 10% of whatever you spent in the Shop back to you on the 15th of every month. For example, if you spent 100 Credits in March, you would get 10 Credits back to you on April 15.
  • You also get a bonus amount of Credits corresponding to your streak of HC membership (HC Streak). You get this bonus every month. Here are the increments:
    • 7 days = 5 Credits
    • 30 days = 10 Credits
    • 60 days = 15 Credits
    • 90 days = 20 Credits
    • 180 days = 25 Credits
    • 365 days = 30 Credits

Cost[edit | edit source]

Habbo Club is bought with Coins, Diamonds, credit card, PayPal, or SMS payments.

Currently, the price of Habbo Club are as follows:

  • 31 days for 50 Coins and Diamonds, or $3.99 USD
  • 3 months for 120 Coins and Diamonds
    • 3 months (including 3 months of Builders Club and 110 extra Coins) for $41.99 USD
  • 6 months for $21.99 USD
  • 1 Year for $39.99 USD

The cost of membership sometimes changes throughout the year. This is due to various promotions set up by Habbo Staff, which offers membership at a lower price or in bundles. During competitions, Habbo Club (usually one month) is often given out for free as rewards.

Removal and re-introduction[edit | edit source]

After approximately nine years in service, Habbo Club was removed from all hotels on November 25, 2011 and replaced by its previous competitor, VIP. However, roughly two years after being removed, it was re-introduced on January 16, 2013 and VIP was removed instead.

Monthly Gifts[edit | edit source]

This article may be out of date, due to a recent update.
Please take the time to update it.

For each month of membership, players receive one free furni. "Retro" HC Gifts were given to players in order on a monthly basis, prior to the VIP update. In January of 2007, old and new HC furni was mixed and the HC plasto set was removed from the monthly gifts. After the 24th month, the newer HC items repeated through the cycle. When HC was brought back after being removed, new gifts were put into the Gifts section and some old gifts were brought back.

The range of gifts now change every few years to keep it fresh.

Badges[edit | edit source]

A badge is given to Habbo Club members to symbolize their membership. Badges vanish when one's membership expires and reappears when it is purchased again. The game keeps track of how many months of Habbo Club you have had, and gives you the appropriate badge based on your membership length. The more recent HC badges had 5 possible "levels" to the badge. After an update, the Habbo Club badges were made to look like the old Retro badges, except with some updates.

Current Badges[edit | edit source]

Membership does not have to be consecutive in order to get the badges.

Retro badges[edit | edit source]

Prior to the VIP update, players received a badge and 100 Pixels after joining Habbo Club. For every 12 months, a player was part of Habbo Club, their badge completion amount increased by 1 level.

The badges originally just consisted of the plain look for 1–12 months and "golden" look for more than 12 months. After the original badges, a banner was introduced for levels (see table). If a user's membership expired and was not reinstated in time, they lost the badge and the progress on it.

If a player happened to be part of Habbo Club when VIP was introduced in 2010, they kept the old badge and the level of progress on it. In the days of Old Habbo, players that have been members of Habbo Club would also receive a badge.

Habbo China[edit | edit source]

When Habbo China was open, the staff only had an opportunity to redesign the original retro HC Badges. Here are their versions of those badges:

Criticism[edit | edit source]

"Discrimination" against non-HC members[edit | edit source]

There have been several examples of in-game discrimination against players without membership (nons or norms) by members. Norms are often called noobs and are victims of harassment. One previously well-known "clique" in Habbo were pomlongs, who exhibited discriminating behavior against non-HC members.

Habbo Staff have also been known to favor HC members over norm members, even releasing Public Rooms exclusive to HC members only.

HC-only updates[edit | edit source]

There have also been controversies or discrimination against Habbo itself due to the fact that some updates were exclusive to members of Habbo Club or VIP only. The added :kick/:kickall commands are available only for Habbo Club members. Most (if not all) clothing updates don't include non-HC members, although in 2014 Habbo Staff made a selection of previously HC-only clothes available for norm users while in turn removing some colors from their options.

2016 HC pricing update[edit | edit source]

On March 30, 2016, Habbo Staff announced via a news article that the prices of Habbo Club have changed dramatically from before. Here is a quote from the news article:

While we’ve raised the price [from 25 credits per month] to 50 credits and 50 diamonds per month, we’ve also made being a member a LOT more rewarding with the introduction of both the HC Centre and HC payday!
— Habbo Staff

This update caused great outrage within the Habbo community since this is the first time these previously Credit only options required a secondary currency to purchase them. This also meant that instead of trading and selling furniture for Credits to fund their membership, users are now forced to pay money to purchase HC.

The absurdity of this update caused many players to question if it was an April Fool's joke due to its close proximity to the day, however, it was later confirmed by Habbo developer Macklebee that the update was in fact, real.
